While Barbara’s name may not be as recognized as some of her fellow plus size models, her extensive work in the industry is hard to miss. Almost every catalog or magazine featuring larger sizes has most likely shown dozens of Barbara’s gorgeous pictures.A native of Seattle, Barbara got her start as a model through peculiar circumstances. She was actually at a singing competition when one of the judges, an agent for a modeling company, suggested that Barbara become a plus size model. While at first she was offended — essentially the gentleman had just politely called her fat — she nevertheless got curious and looked into the industry. After some initial research, Barbara found the idea of plus size modeling to be a fantastic opportunity.
Her modeling work has been in numerous catalogs, including Eddie Bauer, Nordstrom’s, Target, Lands End, and several others. Barbara was also featured in several magazines, but was especially known for her work with Mode Magazine, which has unfortunately ceased production.
Working as a full-time model and balancing in time for her family, Barbara has managed to become an entrepreneur and has started her own line of maternity clothing. She also tries to speak-out publicly about women developing positive body images. Barbara feels fortunate that her life story has inspired so many young girls and women to be comfortable in their own bodies and to accept themselves as beautiful.
