Fully Lined Sleeveless Print Halter Dress | Lane Bryant Empire Waist Full Figured Evening Wear

Empire waist designs are everywhere these days. On dresses and tops, cut low or high, it seems like people just can’t get enough of the waist flattering silhouette that dates back to the 1800s. But because of their popularity (and the number of pieces with the feature in my closet) I try to stay away from them. That is, until I find one that I can’t walk away from.

What does it take to make me look twice? A fantastic print and other noteworthy details like the ones found on this sleeveless mock halter dress from Lane Bryant. The brilliant combination of the dark brown, turquoise, and teal green in a whirlwind of a pattern is what really caught my eye. I also like the fact that the dress hits below the knee but is no where near being a maxi. The smocking and the looped and buttoned back slit at the neckline are also very nice details that top off this moderately priced piece.

Despite how much I can appreciate the dress, there are several things that I think might not translate well on certain body types. If you’re like me, even the thought of baring your arms inspires feelings of anxiety, but this can be easily taken care with a matching green or brown shoulder shrug. Also, while I like the smocking that creates the empire waist because its low enough to suit both large and small breasted women, the smocking at the neck looks like it may be a little uncomfortable.
