When classic gets revamped with a contemporary twist is where my personal style lies. Yes, I do like to make statements with my clothing. But, I also believe in wearing simple and classic pieces that feature time-honored silhouettes.

The piece I covet the most at the moment: Lane Bryant’s beaded neck sheath dress. Though it is a simple, knee length column dress, the detailed execution in the design of this outfit makes my heart flutter.

It starts with a mesh-wrapped beaded bateau neckline that adheres to the curve of the collarbone, thereby accentuating the shoulders and adding a sophisticated element that makes the wearer look classy and somewhat regal. A decadent lace print in frost gray runs the length of the dress and stops right above the knee at what I believe to be the sexiest dress length on most women. Contour stitching and darts add shape in all the right places. Just when you think it can’t get anymore seamless, it does. The back zipper with hook and eye closure is hidden underneath the fabric of the dress.

As with other pieces, it has drawbacks. The polyester material from head to knee in a dress shape that clings to the body can make you feel stuffy, especially if you decide to add a cropped sweater to cover your arms at the office. Also, it’s dry clean only and the bateau neckline is ill-fitting on women with very large busts. All that aside, I drool over this piece and felt that I had to share it with you.
