Just when you think there’s only so many ways to design a shirt, a new design comes out that gets you excited and ready to buy. This tuck front top takes the concept of the empire waist and turns it around with high style and several well-placed tucks.

I absolutely adore the crisscross tuck pattern on this top. The tucks crisscross over the breasts, creating a cinched bodice look without crushing your ribs. A sweetheart neckline also flatters the bust without plunging down inappropriately. The shoulders are rounded downward to soften the contours of the outfit.

As is true with most empire waists, the waistline is gathered so that the lower portion flows loosely over the midsection. For some body types this look may be too blousy, but the gathered waist on this particular top isn’t overdone. Close fitting long sleeves help lengthen this top to give the appearance of height and slenderness. For fall and winter, these long sleeves will help keep you warm and cozy.

With a jersey knit top, the tucks have an interesting texture and should hold their form well over time. The bottom is a rayon viscose, which drapes flatteringly over the body and feels similar to soft cotton fabrics. Maintenance wise, however, these fabrics should be hand washed. Perhaps a little extra TLC in the laundry room, but it’s worth it for such an eye-catching top.
